    About this event

The ECMO Course hosted by Dr. Soliman Fakeeh Hospital in Jeddah runs over three full days, 15–17 September 2026, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily, and is accredited for 18 CME hours. Delivered by Fakeeh Care Academy in partnership with Fakeeh College for Medical Sciences, the programme is built for multidisciplinary teams who care for the sickest patients in the hospital and who need a structured, practical grounding in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.

    Course objectives

    • ECMO fundamentals — understand the underlying principles of extracorporeal support and clearly differentiate between veno-venous (VV) and veno-arterial (VA) ECMO, including the physiology, indications and contraindications that guide mode selection at the bedside.
    • Circuit setup and safety — demonstrate correct ECMO circuit assembly, priming and pre-initiation safety checks, with an emphasis on team communication, checklists and the human factors that prevent circuit-related adverse events.
    • Monitoring and complications — interpret ECMO parameters alongside patient physiology, recognise the early signals of circuit and patient complications, and act on them before they escalate.
    • ECMO management — apply the principles of day-to-day ECMO management, covering anticoagulation strategies, troubleshooting, weaning protocols and safe decannulation.

    Who should attend

The course is designed for emergency medicine physicians, cardiac surgeons, cardiologists, critical care medicine specialists, cardiac perfusionists, and nurses working in intensive care, cardiac surgery and emergency settings. Trainees and residents rotating through critical care units will find the circuit and troubleshooting sessions particularly useful, as the content moves from first principles to real management decisions.

    Attendance options

Participants may choose physical attendance at Fakeeh College for Medical Sciences (2nd Floor, TBL Studio – 1/A Hall) or virtual attendance through the Fakeeh Care Academy learning platform. In-person places give access to the hands-on circuit setup and priming stations, while the virtual track covers the didactic programme.

    Course fees

    • Fakeeh staff: Free
    • Outside attendees: SAR 750
    • Virtual attendees: SAR 375

    Venue and contact

Fakeeh College for Medical Sciences, Al Hamra, Palestine Road, Jeddah. Registration is handled by Fakeeh Care (Fakeeh.Care), with a dedicated contact line on 9200 12 777. Places on the in-person track are limited by the hands-on station capacity, so early registration is advised for perfusionists and ICU nursing teams attending as a unit.
