Essential Knowledge in Clinical Toxicology provides a structured, clinically focused introduction to the principles of poisoning management for front-line healthcare professionals. Built around real-world decision-making, patient safety and evidence-based practice aligned with international toxicology standards, the course walks learners through the systematic assessment of the poisoned patient, recognition of toxidromes, risk–benefit assessment of decontamination, timing and pitfalls of antidote use, interpretation of toxicology laboratory data, and the integration of psychosocial and psychiatric safety considerations into disposition planning.
Content is delivered through 12 case-based recorded sessions with 2 assessments (pre-course and post-course), enabling learners to progress at their own pace within a 2, 4 or 10-week accessibility window. Case scenarios cover common and high-risk exposures encountered in emergency departments, critical care units, primary care clinics and inpatient pharmacy services.
By the end of the course participants will be able to: understand the fundamental principles of clinical toxicology; apply structured approaches to the assessment of poisoned patients; recognise common toxidromes and their clinical implications; identify indications and limitations of decontamination and antidotal therapy; and integrate medical and psychosocial considerations into toxicology cases.
