    About this event

The ASID Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) 2027 is held on 5–8 May 2027 at the Cairns Convention Centre in Cairns, Far North Queensland, Australia. It is the flagship meeting of the Australasian Society for Infectious Diseases and the leading professional gathering for adult and paediatric infectious diseases physicians, clinical microbiologists, public health leaders, One Health, veterinary and ecology specialists, nurses, scientists, pharmacists, policymakers and researchers across Australia and New Zealand.

The 2027 theme is "Tropical. Regional. Practical." Set between the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics rainforest, the scientific programme focuses on tropical medicine: the latest research and innovations in the prevention, diagnosis and management of tropical and vector-borne diseases and emerging infectious disease threats. There is a particular emphasis on global health, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and the changing epidemiology of infectious diseases across Australia, the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.

The ASM rotates across Australian and New Zealand cities and is developed with a local organising committee. Its programme features keynote speakers, abstract presentations, workshops and panel discussions covering adult and paediatric infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance and stewardship, microbiology, infection prevention, One Health and pandemic preparedness. It also offers networking, mentoring and professional development across all career stages.

The welcome note is signed by ASID President Prof Chris Blyth and CEO Dr Irene Kourtis. The Cairns convenors include Dr Trent Yarwood, infectious diseases physician at Cairns Hospital and Cairns Sexual Health, together with colleagues from Cairns Hospital.

The meeting has received funding through the Business Events Cairns & Great Barrier Reef Business Events Support Fund. Registration fees, CPD hours and the abstract timeline are not yet shown on the home page; see the official ASM website for programme, sponsorship and registration updates.
