From Risk to Recognition: Early CP Detection with HINE (Workshop)

For the first time in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Neonatology Society (SNS) — in collaboration with Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (affiliated with the University of Toronto) and the King Salman Center for Disability Research (KSCDR) — presents a 3-day certificate workshop on early detection of cerebral palsy (CP) using the Hammersmith Infant Neurological Examination (HINE).
Participants earn a Certificate of Competency in Basic HINE Administration & Scoring, accredited by SCFHS for 21 CME hours.
Purpose of the Workshop
- Develop clinical competency in HINE administration and scoring for early CP identification.
- Strengthen understanding of the early-detection triad: HINE, General Movements Assessment (GMA), and neonatal neuroimaging / TEA-MRI.
- Enhance family-centred communication using the F-Words framework and WHO-ICF.
- Translate knowledge into locally adaptable practices — early intervention and referral pathways inspired by the Sunnybrook NFUC framework, integrated into post-NICU follow-up programs.
- Promote practical and applied learning via simulation and case-based reasoning.

- Day 2 — Introduction to HINE · HINE Administration (Part 1) · HINE Scoring & Interpretation (Part 2) · Applied Case Learning.
- Day 3 — Cases 1–3 · Implementation & QI Panel · Closing & Certification.
