The 14th Annual Conference of the African Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Therapy (AFSRA) takes place on 13–14 November 2026 at InterContinental Semiramis, Cairo, Egypt, in collaboration with Regional Anaesthesia UK (RA-UK). Pre-congress cadaver courses are advertised for 12 November at Cairo University and Al-Azhar University. A separate virtual registration route is available; practical scanning and cadaver workshops are location-based activities.
Scientific programme
The two-day meeting combines scientific presentations with regional anaesthesia, point-of-care ultrasound and chronic-pain teaching. The opening includes Nat Haslam's keynote on establishing a regional anaesthesia and pain service. Published sessions address perioperative regional anaesthesia, imaging and simulation, obstetric practice and interventional pain management. Day two includes an expert discussion and oral presentations for the best abstracts and AFSRA Diamond Prize.
Afternoon workshops use multiple teaching stations. Day one covers blocks above and below the clavicle, abdominal-wall blocks and free scanning. Day two covers the front and back of the lower limbs, back scanning and gastric ultrasound. Parallel chronic-pain workshops address lumbar and pelvic injections, caudal epidural and piriformis procedures, hip and knee injections, cervical nerve roots and stellate ganglion, cervical facets and occipital nerve, shoulder injections, groin procedures and upper-limb entrapment therapy.
Pre-congress courses include ultrasound-guided Plan A blocks at Cairo University's anatomy laboratory and fluoroscopy-guided interventional chronic-pain teaching at Al-Azhar University. The attached preliminary programme contains published faculty, stations and schedules.
