The International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) will bring its regional congress to Muscat, Oman from 10 to 13 November 2029 — one of the few ISBT congresses ever held in the GCC, confirmed on ISBT's official list of future congresses.
ISBT is the global professional society for transfusion medicine, founded in 1935. Its congresses gather transfusion medicine physicians, haematologists, blood bank staff, laboratory scientists, transfusion practitioners, nurses, regulators and industry partners.
What to expect
ISBT congresses span the whole transfusion chain: donor recruitment and safety, blood component production, immunohaematology, transfusion-transmitted infections, haemovigilance, plasma and plasma-derived medicines, cellular therapy and patient blood management. A Gulf-hosted meeting is expected to give special attention to regional priorities such as haemoglobinopathies (thalassaemia and sickle cell disease), chronic transfusion programmes, rare donor registries and self-sufficiency in blood and plasma.
Who should attend
- Transfusion medicine specialists and haematologists across the GCC and Middle East
- Blood bank and laboratory professionals
- Transfusion practitioners, nurses and quality managers
- Regulators, public health leaders and researchers
