    About this event

The Amman Retina Meeting returns to the Fairmont Hotel Amman from 26 to 28 May 2027, continuing a series that has become one of the Middle East's reference gatherings for medical and surgical retina. The 2027 edition is built around the theme of redefining retina care in the region, and brings together an unusually international faculty for a meeting of its size — 55 faculty members from more than 32 countries, delivering 90 presentations across 14 sessions to an expected audience of 600+ participants.

The programme is accredited for 25.25 Category 1 credit hours by the American Association of Continuing Medical Education (AACME), making it one of the higher credit-value ophthalmology meetings available regionally. Format is deliberately mixed: keynote lectures, five instruction courses, four expert panels, and free paper and video sessions where complex surgical cases are dissected in front of the audience.

Congress topics span the full retinal spectrum — diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular oedema, age-related macular degeneration and the evolving anti-VEGF and biosimilar landscape, retinal detachment and complex vitreoretinal surgery, macular hole and epiretinal membrane management, uveitis and ocular inflammation, retinal vascular occlusions, inherited retinal disease and emerging gene therapy, paediatric retina and retinopathy of prematurity, ocular trauma, and surgical imaging including intraoperative OCT and wide-field visualisation systems.

The faculty list reads as a who's who of international vitreoretinal surgery: Francesco Bandello (Italy), Lyndon Da Cruz (UK), Tom Williamson (UK), David Chow (Canada), Christopher Riemann (USA), Tamer Mahmoud (USA), Szilárd Kiss (USA), Kourous Rezaei (USA), Marc de Smet (Switzerland), Siegfried Priglinger and Peter Szurman (Germany), Makoto Inoue and Yusuke Oshima (Japan), Wei-Chi Wu (Taiwan), Mario Romano and Daniele Tognetto (Italy), Stratos Gotzaridis and Petros Petrou (Greece), Cyrus Shroff (India), Andre Maïa (Brazil) and David Pelayes (Argentina). Regional representation is equally strong, with Ehab El Rayes, Magdy Moussa, Hani Hamza, Mahmoud Soliman, Hassan Mortada and Sherif Sheta from Egypt, Hasan Aldhabi, Abdullah Qahtani and Mohammad Alhazzazi from Saudi Arabia, Khalid Sabti from Kuwait, Nicola Ghazi, Saleh Al Messabi and Abdul Aziz Badla from the UAE, and Meriem Abdellaoui from Morocco.

Registration is US$200 for early bird bookings made before 30 January 2027, rising to US$250 afterwards. Doctors in training pay US$150 early, US$200 late, with pre-registration required. The fee covers the opening ceremony, all scientific sessions, the exhibition, congress lunches and coffee breaks, and a certificate of attendance with the final programme.

For retina specialists, comprehensive ophthalmologists and ophthalmology residents across the Gulf, Levant and North Africa, this meeting offers international-level vitreoretinal teaching without long-haul travel, in a compact three-day format.
