The HSJ Patient Safety Congress is the UK's largest annual gathering dedicated to patient safety, quality and clinical excellence. The 2026 edition takes place on 28–29 September 2026 at Telford International Centre under the theme "Beyond Honest Conversations: Delivering Safer Care."
The central question for 2026
After 19 years as the home of UK patient safety, the Congress puts one question to its 800+ delegates: how do we deliver safer care amid the three shifts of the government's 10-year plan, a national restructure, and continued workforce pressure? The programme answers with practice rather than principle — where modern safety approaches are already reducing avoidable harm, and where the system still needs to act.
Who is in the room
Healthcare leaders, frontline clinicians, safety specialists, regulators, improvement teams and patient voices — one of the few UK meetings that puts all of those groups in the same sessions. Delegates leave with a practical toolkit for leaders, managers and frontline clinicians.
What is new for 2026
- Award-winning project showcases — lightning talks and interaction with shortlisted and winning organisations from the HSJ Patient Safety Awards, designed so delegates can replicate results
- A dedicated wellbeing zone, recognising that staff safety and patient safety are the same problem from two ends
- Dynamic, interactive and deliberately honest session formats over two full days
Practical notes
- Group bookings: discounts for five or more delegates — contact James Elliott at james.elliott@hsj.co.uk or +44 (0)20 7549 8648
- The full programme is downloadable from the Congress website; partner and exhibitor opportunities are open
Why it matters regionally
For safety, quality and governance leads outside the UK — including across Saudi Arabia and the GCC, where patient safety programmes are expanding under national quality frameworks — the Congress is one of the most concentrated sources of implementation-level learning on harm reduction and safety culture in a two-day format.
