Special Issue 02: Diabetes & Obesity

    Scope of the issue

Manuscripts are welcomed across the full spectrum of diabetes and obesity science and practice, including but not limited to:

    • Epidemiology and burden of type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf
    • Obesity prevalence, childhood obesity and population-level prevention
    • Glycaemic control, newer therapeutics (GLP-1 receptor agonists, SGLT2 inhibitors, dual agonists) and real-world outcomes
    • Bariatric and metabolic surgery outcomes

    • Metabolic dysfunction–associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and insulin resistance
    • Digital health, continuous glucose monitoring and AI-supported diabetes care
    • Health services research, cost-effectiveness and Vision 2030 health-transformation outcomes

    Who should submit

Endocrinologists, internists, family physicians, bariatric and metabolic surgeons, clinical pharmacists, dietitians, diabetes educators, public-health researchers and postgraduate trainees with original data or a rigorous review in this field.

    Why publish here

SMJ is Saudi Arabia's long-standing peer-reviewed general medical journal, indexed internationally and widely read across the Gulf. A themed special issue concentrates readership and citation attention on your topic, and gives regional data an audience of clinicians who can act on it.

    How to submit

Prepare your manuscript per the journal's author instructions and submit online through the SMJ portal at smj.org.sa, selecting the Diabetes & Obesity special issue. Submissions received after 1 October 2026 may be considered for a later regular issue rather than the December 2026 themed issue.
