    About this event

The 7th Brain Conference will take place on Friday 12 March 2027 at 1 Basinghall Avenue, London. The meeting is in-person only. Jointly organised by the journals Brain and Brain Communications, it supports the Guarantors of Brain’s mission to promote teaching, education and research in neurology and related disciplines. The organisers began the conference in 2021 and involve guarantors in its organising committee to help keep its scientific sessions aligned with developments in neuroscience.

The 2027 programme centres on pain, neuropsychiatry and emerging methodologies. Following registration and a welcome, Professor Irene Tracey will give the plenary, “The Brain’s Experience of Pain: From Perception to Mechanism.” The pain session includes David Bennett on human pain channelopathies and Andrew Dilley on peripheral neuroinflammation and mechanisms underlying persistent pain. Rimona Weil and Pao-Sheng Chang chair and co-chair this session.

The neuropsychiatry session brings together Katie Marwick on reproductive psychiatry, David Belin on incentive drug-seeking habits and addiction, Rachel Upthegrove on immune dysfunction in severe mental illness, and Francesca Happé on autism and functional neurological disorder. Belinda Lennox and Laurent Sheybani lead the session. After lunch and posters, a Data Blitz session is chaired by Manuela Marescotti with Emma Tallantyre as co-chair. The final scientific session addresses next-generation functional brain imaging with Matthew Brookes, iPSC-derived organoids in translational neuroscience with Zameel Cader, and big data and artificial intelligence for dementia research with Valentina Escott-Price. Closing remarks and a drinks reception complete the day.

Researchers, clinicians and students are invited to submit poster abstracts across thirteen neurological and neuroscience themes. The submission deadline is 20 January 2027 at 17:00, and abstracts are limited to 250 words. A contributing author must attend in person to present. Submissions can also be considered for a best-poster prize and five-minute Data Blitz oral presentations, with opt-out choices on the form.

Registration is open until 26 February 2027, with standard tickets at GBP 150 and student tickets at GBP 75. Tickets include break refreshments and a sandwich lunch; attendees with special dietary requirements should contact the administration team. Registration at the venue will not be available. Eligible attendees may apply for a travel grant, with 15 January 2027 identified as the latest application date for this conference. The CPD page states that the conference will apply for credits from the Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom; approval and a credit total have not yet been published.
