    About this event

The 9th Moorfields UAE: A Year in Focus International Ophthalmology Conference is held on 9 January 2027 in person at the Conrad Dubai, UAE, with a second, fully online day on 10 January 2027.

A Year in Focus brings the ophthalmic community together to reflect on the important developments of the past year and to consider the advances, technologies and approaches likely to shape the future of eye care. Now in its ninth edition, the conference is an established fixture in the regional ophthalmology calendar, offering a platform for specialists to share knowledge, research and clinical experience across the whole of ophthalmology.

More than 60 international, regional and local experts are expected to contribute across 20+ themed sessions. The programme covers medical retina, vitreoretinal surgery and uveitis; cataract, cornea and refractive surgery; paediatric ophthalmology and neuro-ophthalmology; glaucoma and oculoplastics; myopia; wet labs and workshops; allied health; research and education; and scientific and poster sessions. Day one runs three parallel halls — Al-Kahhal, Ridley and Kelman — with dedicated nursing and allied health tracks, a posters session, a meet-the-experts round table, a closing great debate and an awards ceremony.

CME accreditation: attendees will be eligible to earn CME points accredited by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA); the organisers list 12+ CME hours as applied for. The registration fee includes admission to all scientific sessions, coffee and lunch breaks, and a CME certificate with hours awarded based on attendance.

Registration is tiered by delegate category and format. Early bird rates run from 15 September to 14 November 2026 with savings of up to 35 percent (doctors from AED 450 in person, AED 350 virtual; optometrists, orthoptists and allied health from AED 150; nurses from AED 100), followed by regular rates from 15 November 2026 to 8 January 2027 and on-site rates from 9 January 2027. Students and residents attend complimentary. All rates exclude 5 percent VAT.

The conference welcomes ophthalmologists, optometrists, orthoptists, nurses, allied health professionals, researchers, trainees and other professionals involved in eye care. Competitions and poster sessions provide a route for trainees and researchers to present work, and the event is delivered with UCL Global Business School for Health as knowledge partner.

The conference is chaired by Dr. Ammar Safar, Chief Medical Officer at Moorfields Eye Hospitals UAE. Feedback from the 8th edition reported a 98 percent overall rating and 99 percent of delegates recommending the meeting to others. The conference secretariat is PEPO Event Management, Dubai.
