    About this event

Metabolic Adaptation After Weight Loss: Understanding the Biological Response to a Reduced Bodyweight is a live evening webinar from the Family Medicine Guide (Daleel) education series, held online on Sunday, 11 October 2026 at 9:00 PM (Riyadh time). The session carries 2 accredited CME hours.

Weight regain after successful weight loss is one of the most common frustrations in obesity care. Part of the explanation lies in how the body responds to a reduced bodyweight: energy expenditure, appetite signals and hormones shift in ways that can push weight back up. This webinar looks at how much of that response is true "metabolic adaptation" and how much is the expected physiology of a smaller body — a distinction that matters when counselling patients and planning long-term weight management.

    Topic objectives

    • Define metabolic adaptation and distinguish it from the expected physiological changes accompanying weight loss.
    • Examine the evidence on its magnitude, variability, and persistence following weight loss.

    Faculty

    • Speaker: Dr Abdullah Badawi — Consultant of Internal and Obesity Medicine, Prince Sultan Military Medical City, Riyadh.
    • Chairman: Dr. Wael Alzahrani — Director of the Endocrinology and Diabetes Department, Prince Sultan Military Medical City, Riyadh.

    Who should attend

Family physicians, internists, endocrinologists, obesity medicine specialists, dietitians, pharmacists and trainees who manage patients before, during and after weight loss — including those on medical or surgical obesity treatment.
