    About this event

ESCMID Global 2027 — the congress formerly known as ECCMID — takes place in Stockholm, Sweden, from 9 to 13 April 2027. Organised by the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, it is the largest annual meeting in its field, attracting well over ten thousand infectious diseases physicians, clinical microbiologists, pharmacists, infection prevention and control practitioners, public health specialists and researchers from every region of the world. The congress runs in hybrid format, with an online platform carrying much of the programme for delegates who cannot travel.

The scientific programme is exceptionally broad and is shaped by ESCMID's study groups. Recurring themes include antimicrobial resistance surveillance and mechanisms, antimicrobial stewardship and pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics, new antibiotics and antifungals in development, bloodstream infection and sepsis, respiratory and viral infections including post-pandemic preparedness, HIV and viral hepatitis, tuberculosis, healthcare-associated infection and infection prevention, diagnostic stewardship and rapid molecular and sequencing-based diagnostics, clinical parasitology and travel medicine, transplant and immunocompromised host infections, paediatric infectious disease, and the clinical implementation of AI in microbiology laboratories. Sessions range from keynote lectures and guideline debates to meet-the-expert breakfasts, hands-on educational workshops, case-based symposia and integrated symposia with partner societies.

Abstract submission is a defining feature of the congress: thousands of abstracts are presented each year as oral, flash or poster presentations, and acceptance is widely used by trainees as an entry point into the European infectious disease community. For the 2027 edition the abstract submission deadline is 18 November 2026, well ahead of the meeting, so authors from Saudi Arabia and the GCC planning to present should begin preparing data during 2026. Bursary and grant programmes support younger delegates and attendees from lower-income countries.

The congress is accredited for European CME credits through EACCME, which are recognised by SCFHS and other Gulf regulators for continuing professional development. Registration tiers, the detailed programme, the industry exhibition and satellite symposia list, and travel and accommodation guidance are published on the official ESCMID Global website; delegates are warned by ESCMID to book only through the official registration channel, as fraudulent housing and registration agencies routinely target this congress.
