The 2nd Deep Brain Stimulation and Movement Disorders Surgery Congress takes place on 20–21 November 2026 in the historic Doctoral Hall and Blue Hall of the Istanbul University Rectorate Building in Beyazıt, Istanbul. Organised by the Deep Brain Stimulation and Movement Disorders Surgery Society and hosted by the Department of Neurosurgery at Istanbul University, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, the congress is listed as an MDS-endorsed meeting on the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society calendar.
Movement disorders surgery and DBS have a long history in Turkey, which in recent years has ranked among the top three countries worldwide for the number of DBS procedures performed. The congress aims above all to support the education of young neurosurgeons and neurologists interested in the field, encouraging them to share up-to-date scientific knowledge, discuss innovative techniques and build experience. In line with the society's policy, the meeting is held in an affordable academic venue rather than a high-cost hotel, keeping registration fees low so that participants can focus on education and scientific exchange.
Planned specialised sessions include "From Past to Future: Stereotactic Frames and Targeting Programs"; "Psychiatric Surgery and DBS"; "DBS & Tourette Syndrome"; "Dystonia Surgery and DBS"; "AI in DBS, Sensing Technologies and Patient Monitoring Systems"; and "Advances in Parkinson's Disease Pharmacotherapy and Device-Assisted Treatment Methods."
Two leading figures in functional neurosurgery will deliver keynote lectures: Prof. Dr. Joachim Krauss (Germany) and Prof. Dr. Bart Nuttin (Belgium), presenting state-of-the-art talks on the special topics of psychiatric surgery and dystonia surgery. The neurology programme features distinguished international guests Prof. Dr. Lars Timmermann (Germany), Prof. Dr. Norbert Kovacs (Hungary) and Prof. Dr. Spyridon Konitsiotis (Greece). The invited speakers are participating without compensation.
The society places great importance on collaboration with international professional organisations, including WSSFN, ESSFN, MSSFN, WFNS, INS and the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society. Abstract submission is open via the congress website — please check the official site for the current deadline, scientific programme, committees, registration and accommodation details.
