SSO2027 | WCO6 — Saudi Ophthalmology Society & 6th World Congress of Optometry Joint Conference
02 Apr 2027 – 04 Apr 2027 · Riyadh International Convention & Exhibition Center, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia · In-Person
SSO2027 | WCO6 is the joint conference of the Saudi Ophthalmology Society and the 6th World Congress of Optometry, held at the Riyadh International Convention & Exhibition Center from 2 to 4 April 2027. Please note the organisers have officially rescheduled the meeting to these April 2027 dates.
Bringing a World Congress of Optometry to Riyadh alongside the national ophthalmology society meeting creates an unusually broad eye-care platform: ophthalmologists, optometrists, opticians, orthoptists, vision scientists and eye-care industry partners share one programme and one exhibition floor. The result is a rare opportunity to see the surgical, medical and primary vision-care sides of the specialty addressed together, with an explicit focus on collaborative models of eye care and on the region's growing burden of refractive error, diabetic eye disease and preventable blindness.
The scientific programme spans the breadth of ophthalmology and optometry: cornea and anterior segment, cataract and refractive surgery, glaucoma, medical and surgical retina, uveitis, pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus, oculoplastics, neuro-ophthalmology, low vision and rehabilitation, contact lens practice, myopia management, binocular vision, public eye health and workforce development. Instructional courses, wet labs, skills-transfer sessions and free-paper presentations run alongside the plenary programme.
The congress is co-located with OPTIVISION x SILMO Riyadh, the optical industry exhibition, which adds a large commercial showcase of frames, lenses, diagnostic equipment and surgical technology to the scientific meeting — making the event equally relevant to practice owners and clinic managers.
Registration: early registration is open through the official Future Insights registration portal, with tiered pricing for members, non-members, allied professionals and students. Abstract, course and workshop submission for the meeting closed on 30 June 2026 after an extension; accepted presentations will appear in the published programme. Delegates travelling from abroad can request a visa support letter through the conference secretariat, and the organisers publish travel requirements and negotiated accommodation options on the conference site.
Speaker announcements are being released progressively; the meeting will host leading regional and international specialists, researchers and industry pioneers, with the official faculty list published on the SSO website ahead of the congress.
Who should attend
ophthalmologists across all subspecialties, optometrists and opticians, orthoptists, ophthalmic nurses and technicians, vision scientists, residents and fellows in ophthalmology, optometry students, and eye-care practice owners and administrators.
For the Saudi and GCC eye-care community, SSO2027 | WCO6 is the anchor event of the 2027 calendar: a world congress hosted at home, with the full national society programme, a major optical exhibition and international faculty in a single Riyadh venue.
