The ERS Congress 2027 takes place from 11 to 14 September 2027 at Allianz MiCo in Milan, Italy. Organised by the European Respiratory Society, it is the largest respiratory medicine meeting in the world, gathering pulmonologists, respiratory scientists, thoracic surgeons, intensivists, paediatricians, nurses, physiotherapists and patient representatives from every continent. The Milan edition follows ERS Congress 2026 in Barcelona and carries the announced theme "Paving the way to prevent chronic respiratory diseases around the globe", with two priority topics: population strategies for respiratory disease prevention, and early detection and early action to keep people breathing well.
The programme is coordinated through the ERS Assemblies, and the resulting coverage is comprehensive: airway diseases including asthma, COPD and chronic cough; respiratory clinical care and physiology; respiratory critical care; sleep disordered breathing; basic and translational science; epidemiology and environment, including air quality and tobacco control; thoracic surgery and lung transplantation; paediatric respiratory medicine; respiratory infections; interstitial lung diseases; thoracic oncology; clinical techniques, imaging and interventional endoscopy; pulmonary vascular disease; and allied respiratory professional practice. Session formats run from major clinical trial results and guideline launches to hands-on skills courses, postgraduate courses, clinical grand rounds and thousands of abstract presentations. The European Lung Foundation works alongside the scientific committee to keep patient and carer perspectives embedded across sessions.
Submission runs in staged windows: abstract and symposia submission for the 2027 congress opened on 29 June 2026, the symposia window closed on 14 September 2026, and a further window for hot-topic content runs from 15 December 2026 to 12 March 2027, allowing late-breaking science to reach the Milan programme.
ERS congresses are accredited by the European Board for Accreditation in Pneumology; the 2026 Barcelona edition carried 40 CME credits including 8 Mark of Excellence credits, and a comparable accreditation is expected for Milan once confirmed. For delegates from Saudi Arabia and the Gulf, Milan is well served by direct flights and the mid-September dates fall immediately after the summer break.
