    About this event

The 2nd Dallah Conference for Obesity and Diabetes Updates is a one-day scientific meeting hosted by Dallah Hospital Al Nakheel at the Riyadh Marriott Hotel, Makarim Hall 1 & 2, on Friday 18 September 2026 from 12:00 to 19:00. The programme is accredited for 7 CME hours by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties, and registration through the official conference form is free of charge.

The meeting is built around a single practical question: what has actually changed in diabetes and obesity care, and how should clinicians in Saudi Arabia act on it. After Jumu'ah prayer and registration, Prof. Abdullah Alguwaihes delivers the opening remarks, followed by Dr. Salah Elfaqih on the role of the private sector in medical education.

Session 1, moderated by Dr. Hamid Alqumaidy and Dr. Ahmed Alnorani, opens with Prof. Carel Le Roux on obesity care beyond weight loss, then Prof. Janaka Karalliedde on managing diabetes in advanced chronic kidney disease, dialysis and the post-transplant patient. Dr. Mohammed Almethhel examines how automated insulin delivery has changed expectations in type 1 diabetes, and Dr. Raed Almannie addresses diabetes and sexual dysfunction — a common but under-discussed complication. The session closes with a panel discussion before the Asr prayer break and exhibition visit.

Session 2, moderated by Dr. Khalid Alkanhal, is led by Prof. Alice Cheng on orforglipron as a new frontier for chronic weight management, with a dedicated Q&A. Dr. Muath AbuAbah then reviews emerging treatment for adolescents with type 2 diabetes, and Dr. Faten Almijmaj offers a practical guide to differentiating type 1 from type 2 diabetes in young patients — a diagnostic problem that shapes therapy for decades.

Session 3, moderated by Dr. Lafia Djeradi and Dr. Meteb Alotaibi, returns to Prof. Janaka Karalliedde on adjunctive treatments in type 1 diabetes with a focus on cardio-renal protection, and to Prof. Carel Le Roux on obesity as a neuro-endocrine disease. Dr. Abdullah Badawi presents "Two Paths, One Goal: Mounjaro and Foundayo in Obesity Management" (sponsored by Eli Lilly), and Dr. Abdulmohsen Bakhsh closes the scientific content with "Beyond the Numbers: How CGM Changes Behavior" (sponsored by Dexcom). A final panel discussion and closing remarks by Prof. Abdullah Alguwaihes precede Maghrib prayer and lunch.

The faculty mixes international authorities in obesity medicine and diabetic nephrology with Saudi endocrinologists, paediatric and adult, making the day relevant to endocrinologists, internists, family physicians, paediatricians, nephrologists, diabetes educators, dietitians and nurses working in diabetes and weight management. An exhibition hall runs alongside the scientific programme.

Attendance is by prior registration on the official conference page, which collects SCFHS and national ID details for CME reporting.
