The SGA Makkah Gut Club Meeting is a CME-accredited evening meeting held by the Saudi Gastroenterology Association together with the Makkah chapter on Tuesday 29 September 2026 at the Park Inn, Makkah — Alnaseem, in partnership with Jamjoom Pharmaceutical Company.
Gut Club meetings are the association's local, regular format: short, focused evening sessions that bring gastroenterologists, internists, family physicians and trainees in one city together around a small number of practical clinical topics, followed by open discussion over dinner. They are deliberately compact — the value lies in the case discussion and the chance to compare local practice, rather than in a long lecture programme.
This meeting covers two topics. The session opens at 9:00 PM with "Management of Dyspepsia", presented by Dr. Abdulrahman Al Majnouni. Dyspepsia remains one of the most common presentations in both primary care and gastroenterology clinics in the Kingdom, and the talk addresses the practical questions that follow it: which patients need endoscopy and which can be treated empirically, how to apply alarm features and age thresholds, the place of Helicobacter pylori test-and-treat, and how to manage the substantial group of patients whose symptoms persist after eradication or acid suppression — functional dyspepsia and its overlap with reflux and irritable bowel syndrome.
The second slot, from 9:20 to 9:40 PM, is "Use of PPI in Clinical Practice", delivered by Jamjoom Pharmaceutical. Proton pump inhibitors are among the most prescribed drugs in Saudi practice and among the most frequently continued without review. The session looks at appropriate indications and dosing, the evidence behind the commonly cited long-term risks, deprescribing and step-down strategies for patients on open-ended therapy, and the situations where a PPI genuinely should be continued indefinitely, such as Barrett's oesophagus and long-term NSAID or antiplatelet use with risk factors for bleeding.
The meeting carries CME accreditation and attendance is free. Registration is through the association's online form, which asks for the attendee's full name, Saudi Commission for Health Specialties registration number and workplace — the commission number is required so that CME hours can be credited to the attendee's professional file after the meeting.
The meeting is aimed at gastroenterologists and GI fellows in the Makkah region, along with internal medicine and family medicine colleagues who manage dyspepsia and acid-related disease day to day, and pharmacists involved in reviewing long-term acid-suppression therapy. Places at the Park Inn are limited by room capacity, so registering ahead of the evening is advisable.
