    About this event

The Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Course is a three-day onsite training activity run by the Educational Activities Department of the Riyadh Second Health Cluster, held at King Fahad Medical City (KFMC) in Riyadh from 2 to 4 October 2026, daily from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM on the 4th floor of the Main Hospital. The course carries 16 CME hours accredited by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties and is also ACCME-accredited through KFMC.

The stated goal is to equip participants with the core knowledge and clinical judgment needed to deliver safe, competent care to oncology patients. Across the three days the programme covers the principles of cancer biology, the major treatment modalities, and the mechanisms of action and clinical applications of the chemotherapy and biotherapy agents used most often in practice. A strong emphasis is placed on standardised principles for the safe preparation, handling and administration of these agents, protecting both the patient and the staff member who handles them.

The course outline runs day by day. Day 1 covers the foundations of oncology nursing. Day 2 addresses oncologic emergencies and complications — the situations where early recognition changes outcomes, from febrile neutropenia and tumour lysis syndrome to extravasation and infusion reactions. Day 3 is simulation based, covering vascular access, patient support and competency assessment, giving participants supervised practice before they apply the skills on the ward.

Teaching is deliberately mixed rather than lecture-only: lecture-based content is combined with case-based discussion, simulation scenarios built around high-risk events, and hands-on skills stations. The course director is Hatem Abdullah AlGhamdi.

The target audience is registered nurses working in oncology units, new graduate and cross-trained nurses moving into chemotherapy and biotherapy administration, and other healthcare professionals seeking foundational knowledge in this area. It suits anyone who is expected to prepare, administer or monitor cytotoxic and biological therapy and wants a structured, accredited grounding rather than on-the-job learning alone.

Registration is handled through the Riyadh Second Health Cluster learning platform. Early registration is SAR 750 until 27 September 2026, and late registration is SAR 900 from 30 September 2026. There is no prerequisite for enrolment and the language of instruction is English. For course information the department can be reached at CPD@KFMC.MED.SA (ext. 10943 / 10944 / 10946), and for general inquiries at ATACC@RC2.MED.SA or 8001277000.

Places on simulation-based days are usually limited by station capacity, so early booking is advisable for anyone who wants the hands-on component rather than a waiting-list place.
